In Turkey, due to changes in social life, the number of people and communities in need of social service is increasing every day. In this context, there is a continuous demand for social service professionals in both public and private sectors. One of the main advantages of undergraduate education is the employability of graduates by public and private institutions and organizations in need of social service.
The Social Services Department aims to train Social Services graduates needed at regional and national levels. In order to reach this goal, the qualifications of the program are considered as learning outcomes. The department is being established in accordance with the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework. Therefore, it is planned to achieve the concrete results of the objectives, considering the learning outcomes in line with the Bologna process. Competencies are measured by mid-term and end-of-term exams. In addition to this, by successfully completing projects, assignments, theses, and field applications, students are expected to fulfill the competencies of the program. These competencies are determined according to the Akdeniz University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education-Teaching and Exam Regulations.
Practice courses are indispensable elements of social service education. Looking at international and national standards, it is expected that the weight of practical courses in the curriculum should be between 30-40%. The fact that practical courses in the education planned to be opened in the social service department are formed considering international and national standards is seen as an important factor in making future social workers/social service experts preferable.
